On February 20, 2026, my son’s shepherd mix welcomed a litter of puppies with a Goldendoodle. At the time, we had no intention of bringing one of those puppies home.
When the puppies were eight weeks old, I helped my daughter-in-law take all seven of them to the veterinarian for their first checkup. That’s when everything changed. The moment I looked into one little puppy’s eyes, something just clicked. I can’t fully explain it—I simply knew he was meant to be part of my life.
The following week, my daughter and son-in-law went to choose the two puppies they were adopting for their boys, and they surprised me by bringing Tank home.
Because we also have a 14-year-old Belgian Malinois, we didn’t want to put her through the stress of adjusting to a rambunctious puppy. Instead, Tank lives with my daughter, where he gets to grow up alongside two of his littermates, Onyx and Toothless.
Although he doesn’t live under my roof, Tank is very much my dog. We spend as much time together as possible, and every day brings us one step closer to the day he’ll be fully trained and ready to become my mobility service dog.
